The holidays are a time of leisure, or at least a time to slow down, a reduction in work obligations, and idleness... However, this was not the case for this year's holidays at the rectory, and especially not in its attic. This activity was captured in a previous article on the website, including other important steps on the path to the new, reconstructed attic.
The stamps on the report cards had hardly dried, and the youth gathered again in the attic. This time, the goal was to prepare the spaces as much as possible for the construction work that would follow the project approval. What needed to be done? Essentially, return the attic spaces almost to their state before the modifications of the 1990s when the attic conversion was made. At that time, shredded cellulose was used for insulation, which now needed to be completely removed from all areas. This insulation had significantly settled over many years, leading to numerous thermal bridges through which heat escaped. This was fully evident and confirmed in many places.
In order to remove the loose insulation, it was necessary to dismantle the large panels that made up the former walls and ceilings of the attic conversion. For several weeks, the attic was very busy, with figures moving about in respirators amidst clouds of dust, using various shovels, small shovels, and snow shovels to load the former thermal insulation into large bags. It was a heroic effort, at the end of which the beams and bricks covered for thirty years were revealed. The space is now ready for the construction company to create the new parish attic.
By the way, the work enthusiasm then spread throughout the rectory, with walls being scraped, painted, windows and railings being varnished, etc. A big thank you to everyone who participated and also to everyone who took care of food and treats for the volunteers.
